Long time, no post PKMN-ph’ers! 2011 has been a BUSY and successful year for us here at PKMN-ph. A lot of important things have happened this year: the Ranger Hunt, the introduction of our new mascot: Ngiyawth, the launching of our Official Facebook Fan Page and Twitter account, and most importantly, our affiliation with the number 1 original video game dealer in the country — DATABLITZ. 2011 might be a quiet year for us here at PKMN-ph but we have sure done a lot of BIG things! And we are not done yet!
The Apocalyptic Year, you say? Ah, enough of the sad news! Ranger Paul is here to round up the year and give you guys a little something to look forward to in 2012 (in a PokéFan’s point of view, of course)!
1.) Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire Remakes and Pokémon Gray
Ah, of course. Everybody is now looking forward to these remakes. Just like in 2009 when Gold & Silver was about to recieve their own DS revivals; PokéFans around the world are now also desperately trying to link and point on different things (like the appearance of Character X in Game Y, therefore explains that an R/S Remake is plausible. Blah blah blah, yada yada…so on and so forth) just to solidify their assumptions that a Ruby & Sapphire remake is now in the works. Speculations aside, there have been no formal announcement from Game Freak and Nintendo just yet so hold your horses for now Blaziken fans!
The Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire 2003 Box Arts
But then again, 2012 might be a good year for RSE Fans, since the spin-off game — Pokémon Rumble Blast for the Nintendo 3DS was a major sales disaster (ugh), and it has already been 9 years since the release of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire for the GameBoy Advance; just 1 year shy of celebrating Ruby & Sapphire’s 10th Year Anniversary (by the way, HeartGold and SoulSilver came out 10 years after the release of Gold and Silver for the GameBoy Color).
Wait, did I just say “9 years“??? I suddenly felt very old…
For the mean time, let’s just now wait for the upcoming Pokémon Gray (name still unofficial at this point) which has been hinted earlier in the movie preview in today’s issue of CoroCoro. More about this in the next topic.
2.) The International Screening of the “Kyurem VS the Sacred Swordsmen” Movie
Pokémon Movie 15: Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsmen Poster
As a Filipino Pokémon Fan, I still feel very frustrated about the fact that we will never get a chance to watch a Pokémon Movie at a cinema here in the Philippines (but who knows? Miracles can happen!) Good thing, we still have Cartoon Network…which airs the Pokémon series as slow as a Slowpoke and has an unexplained infatuation about THAT teenage boy who can transform himself into different alien beings…*sigh*
If you are an Animé Fan, then 2012 will be a good year to watch these Pokémon Movie right on your very own PERSONAL COMPUTER! *sigh*
Watch out for Kyurem’s Alternate Forme to debut in this movie (CoroCoro revealed this earlier, though still a bit vague at this point)!
Wait…what? GMA 7 will be airing the Tagalized Pokémon Animé Series AGAIN this year??? Well, that’s GREEEEEAAAAT (sarcasm)! I am about to turn 26 next year, and yet, we are still on the neverending Hoenn arc (correct me if I’m wrong…tell me that I lived under a rock and we are now on the SINNOH LEAGUE)! Argh! My goodness… *another sigh*
3.) Ranger Hunt III
Yes. Right. We, I mean “I” am still in need of a “new blood” (spare me the Twilight jokes, please). I’ve already spent 2 years trying to assemble a good Ranger Team, and yet, all I came up with is a bunch of college guys who can’t balance their studies and their responsibilities here at PKMN-ph. Not that I am blaming school for their inactivity. It’s just that, my comrades here might have probably lost that “touch” and are now too old for Pokémon… This might be a rant, but I am opening the doors of PKMN-ph.com once again to those aspiring members who can ACTIVELY support the site with their creativity and perseverance! I am not saying that the past 2 Ranger Hunt auditions were a failure… Why? Because it showed me that there are still a lot of people out there who are willing to support this aging Pokémon Fan Site. And this year, we hope we can finally find the missing piece/s to what could be the BEST RANGER TEAM ever since 2006, on our 3rd Annual Ranger Hunt!
Who will make it to the team this year? Stay tuned!
4.) 4th Official Ozine Fest Meetup
PKMN-ph held an impromptu meetup last December 27 at Trinoma and sadly, only 7 of us have participated in that event (2 Rangers, and 5 members). The number of people who attended the meetup is really a big disappointment (despite of the BIG number of Poll Voters on our official Facebook Fan Page) however, it was still enjoyable and meeting new friends “personally” in our community was such a great experience!
This 2012, we will be having our 4th Official Meetup on the annual Ozine Fest, and…maybe this time, the attendace will double compared to last year’s meetup! So mark your calendar (the event might fall on an April or a May), and wait for that important announcement this upcoming summer so that you can meet and greet (and probably, BATTLE and TRADE) with your fellow Pinoy Pokémon Fans! Check out the photo below and see how happy we were at this year’s Ozine Fest!
5.) Support for the TCG Community
When PKMN-ph was still new way back in 2006 (still under the name “pkmnph”), our ex-Rangers were actively participating in Pokémon TCG tournaments left and right across the country; doing news coverage all year long. Sadly, those times are gone. These past few years, the Pokémon video gaming scene suddenly exploded with the introduction of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl; along with its Wi-Fi capabilities that enabled players to play online with one another despite of their geographical differences. Since then, it was all VIDEO GAMES for PKMN-ph…
Our very own Ranger Deric (the one wearing an orange shirt) playing Pokémon TCG last December 30. Credits to stephen for the photo.
This upcoming year, we would like to go back to where we’ve started. The times when good old friends meet — shuffling their own decks, flipping coins, and duking it out on the play mat until a certain player scratches his head after a loss and ending it with a firm handshake with the other player. Expect to see PKMN-ph participating in those events next year, and who knows, you might get featured on our homepage after your tourney win!
6.) Now, where do we go from here?
Whew, that was a long chatter up there! I have enumerated all the possible things that a PokéFan like me (and you) could expect this coming year. However, I still believe that there are other things that I didn’t write about – the UNEXPECTED changes. As we all know, PKMN-ph.com is now the most resilient Pokémon Fan Site here in the Philippines – spanning 5 years of dedicated service to our fellow Pokémon Fans. We have undergone several major changes, and we have surpassed those other communities who have come and gone already. But we are now running out of gas. Some of THEM believed that 2012 must be our “last hurrah” and may now be on the verge of shutting down the site for good… But like I have said before: As long as there is a single Pinoy Pokémon Fan on the Internet, PKMN-ph will still be there! No matter whether you are a registered forum member or just a random Fan Page Liker — you are already a part of our community!
Nope. Let me correct that.
As long as you are a FILIPINO and you love Pokémon…then you are already a part of Pokémon Philippines!
Expect a lot of changes this 2012, and let’s all hope that these changes are for the good!
Welcome 2012! Happy New Year to all of us!
